“So like ‘Little Wing’ is like one of those beautiful girls that come around sometimes.  They might be spaced.  They might be, you know, kind of strung out on a certain this or that.  You know everybody has a right to their own releases or their own beliefs, if they want to believe that a star is purple or whatever.”

“Onstage, we’ll always be a rock and roll band.  I never really thought about playing rock.  It meant a solution to certain things and a way to express myself.”  Ray Davies.

“Tell you what ‘Sunny Afternoon’ sounds like.  I could draw it better than tell you what it sounds like.  It looks like a leaf, very sharp holly, and in the background is a big round sun and the leaf is cutting through the sun coming through.  That’s what it looked like.  I said this is the sound of one.  I couldn’t explain it to the engineer, so I drew it.  I said this is how the bass should be, flat, this sticking up in the middle which is the rhythm guitar.  I think it saves a lot of trouble if you can do it.”   Ray Davies, 1970.
